Electricity

See your usage between bills, not after them.

Readings that add up to a picture.

Log readings for one or more meters and watch consumption take shape, instead of waiting for a bill to explain what happened.

The problem

A meter reading on its own says nothing. Usage is the difference between two readings, and that difference stays invisible unless somebody keeps the history — which is why the bill is usually the first news.

The approach

LifeRoster keeps a reading series per meter. Because consecutive readings are stored with their dates, consumption between them follows directly, and a chart of usage over time comes for free.

What it does

Key capabilities

Everything listed here is built and in use in Electricity today.

  • Multiple meters

Track one meter or several, each with its own reading series and detail screen.

  • Consumption chart

A per-meter chart showing how usage moves across the readings you have logged.

  • Reading and bill history

The full series behind the chart, browsable as a list.

  • Linked documents

Point a document in the vault at a meter and it appears on that meter's screen — the paper bill and the readings it covers, in the same place.

  • Meter state

Mark a meter as running or stopped, so a disconnected or seasonal meter stops distorting the picture without being deleted.

  • Folders and export

File meters into your own categories, and export a report as a PDF choosing which meters and how much history to include.

In practice

A typical workflow

Step through it — each step shows where you are in the flow.

Electricity · step 1 of 4

Read the meter

Usage is worked out from your readings rather than stored beside them. Correct a mistyped reading and every figure around it corrects itself.

Pictures on this record

Photograph the meter face with the reading. It takes a second at the meter and settles any later argument about whether a digit was misread — which is the whole problem with a number typed from memory in a dark stairwell.

What it is like to live with

The things that decide whether a module still helps after a year of real use.

On a phone

Meters are read where they are installed, often in a cupboard or a stairwell. The entry sheet is a single numeric field with a large keypad, and it works with no connection at all.

Your data

Meter records stay private to your account — encrypted on your device and protected while syncing. LifeRoster does not connect to your utility provider; readings are the ones you enter.

Good to know

  • Track one meter or several, each with its own history and chart.
  • A meter with logged readings refuses deletion, so a series is never lost by accident.
  • Units used per month feed the usage report, next to the distance you drove.
  • The assistant understands a spoken or typed meter reading with no connection at all.
