Assistant

Say it plainly; review before it saves.

An assistant that works offline first.

Type or speak an entry in your own words. Most requests resolve on the device with no network at all, and nothing is ever written until you confirm it.

The problem

Filling in a form is precise but slow. Saying it in your own words is fast, but usually means sending everything you type away to be understood somewhere else — which needs a connection, and puts personal records on the network for the sake of convenience.

The approach

LifeRoster understands most of what you type on the device itself. Only when it genuinely cannot work out what you meant does it need to reach out — and nothing is ever saved until you confirm it.

What it does

Key capabilities

Everything listed here is built and in use in Assistant today.

  • Learns your phrasing

It remembers the wordings you confirm, so the way you say things is understood faster next time.

  • Works without a connection

Blood pressure readings, meter readings, ledger entries and expenses are recognized on the device with no network at all.

  • Asks instead of guessing

Which person, which meter, which contact — when it is unsure, it asks with a tap rather than picking one.

  • Answers 'how do I…?' on the device

Questions about how the app works are answered from help that ships with the app, so the most commonly asked question is also the fastest one and works with no signal.

  • Voice input

Dictate instead of typing. The transcript lands in the composer for you to check, and never sends itself.

  • Chat history

Your conversation is kept and stays with you across devices.

In practice

A typical workflow

Step through it — each step shows where you are in the flow.

Assistant · step 1 of 4

Say what happened

The assistant never saves anything by itself. It fills in the normal form and hands it to you — you review it and decide.

Pictures on this record

The assistant hands you the module's normal form, and that form has the same attachment strip as always — so a picture can go on the record it opens, captured the usual way.

What it is like to live with

The things that decide whether a module still helps after a year of real use.

On a phone

The assistant sits in the tab bar with voice input a tap away. Because most requests are handled on the device, it stays useful on a phone with no signal — which is exactly where quick capture happens.

Your data

Voice dictation is transcribed on your device, so audio never leaves it. Most requests are understood on the device too. When one needs more help it is handled through a secure service that confirms it is you — your records themselves are read on your device, not by that service.

Good to know

  • The most common entries — blood pressure, meter readings, ledger entries and expenses — work with no connection at all.
  • So do questions about how the app works; that help ships with the app rather than being fetched.
  • What it learns from you is your phrasing, not your records, and a correction takes effect immediately.
  • Numbers and digits are handled in a language-neutral way, so it is not limited to English input.
  • Coverage is still growing: some modules are understood on the device today, others need a connection.
